NAPILI KAI

FEBRUARY FUN WEBSITE

Saturday Morning, February 27, 2010

An 8.8 magnitude earthquake in Chile sent a tsunami toward Hawaii, the tsunami warning sirens sounded, and the February gang that remained moved to higher ground...the tennis courts near the Pineapple Grill. The tsunami arrived in Hawaii early on Saturday afternoon, however, the surge was very small and the warning was canceled.

Courtesy of Sue Cox: A lot of us met in the Cabana for dinner Saturday night after the non-tsunami and composed this poem.  We thought the people who missed it and those who lived it would enjoy it.

Ode to the Tsunami

by

The Survivors

We awoke to the sounds of the siren's screeches.

The next thing you know we were banned from the beaches.

We gathered our valuables, medicines and booze.

Headed up Pineapple Hill with not a minute to lose.

We settled ourselves under the trees.

It was a hot day with not much of a breeze.

When the predicted tsunami failed to appear,

down the hill we went with all of out gear.

Back in our rooms and resettled at about One.

The dominos started and others basked in the sun.

As we counted our blessings the rest of the day,

Napili Kai is still heaven, as we always say.
