Enid Winnifred Matheson, September 14, 1918 - April 24, 2013, Passed away peacefully at the age of 94. Predeceased by her beloved husband Kenneth of 60 years. Much loved Mother and Mother-in-law of Bruce and DeeDee Matheson and Marilyn and Dr. Keith Chambers. Special Grandmother to Brett and Elizabeth, Cory, Kramer and Reid Matheson, and Dr. Lauchlan and Mackenzie Chambers. Great-Grandmother of Luca and Mila Matheson. Enid was born in Moorefield, Ontario and was a graduate of Toronto Western Hospital School of Nursing. During the Second World War, she became the Nurse in Charge of the Operating Theatre at the Canadian Ward Burn Unit, East Grinstead in Britain. She will be remembered for the extraordinary care she provided to the burn victims of the War, who would later be known as "The Guinea Pigs". Thanks to the Museum of Military History, 39 Canadian Brigade Group (4050 West 4th Avenue), her uniform and a description of her War experience are on display. While overseas, she met and later married Kenneth Matheson, a bomber pilot who was awarded the DFC and Bar. They were married on December 6th, 1945 and settled in New Westminster, where her husband became an owner of Fraser River Pile Driving. Enid was a long time member of the Vancouver Golf Club, Napili Kai Beach Club and St. Aidan's Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir. She decorated the homes of her family with her many beautiful needlepoints. She will be remembered for her kindness and appreciation of life and family.
