KNUTSON, Ingrid “Ingie” Marie obituaries

Sadly, we say goodbye to a wonderful wife, mom, grandma, sister and friend. Ingie passed away with her family by her side on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at the age of 74.

Ingrid was born in Hardisty, Alberta on March 27, 1940 and lived in Hughenden, Alberta until 1956. Ingie and Gerry were married in Edmonton on November 8, 1956 and later settled in Calgary where life-long friends were made including the infamous “Lakeview Lovelies”. Ingie loved spending time with family and friends at Mara Lake, BC. She was a gracious and generous host with an ability to prepare delicious meals for large gatherings of family and friends. Ingie became a second mom to many friends of her children and she had a natural talent for making everyone feel welcome. Ingie and Gerry discovered another favourite place, Napili Kai Beach Resort in Maui, in 1969 and returned every winter for 46 years. They made many friends that they looked forward to seeing each year. Ingie was an amazing putter and her name is on the resort par buster’s wall of fame. This competitive nature was evident when she earned the title of Calgary Women’s 10 Pin Bowling Champion in 1968. Ingrid will be forever remembered for her kindness and generosity, her fun-loving and feisty personality, and her love for her family. The family wishes to thank the staff at ICU and Unit 36 at the Foothills Medical Centre and the staff at the Carewest Sarcee Hospice.

Ingie is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Gerald (Gerry); daughter Carolyn (Rod) MacDonald and sons Jason and Mark, and Rod’s son Michael; daughter Laurie Knutson and sons Stephen and Sean; son Kevin (Patsy) Knutson and children Travis, Laine and Carly; and daughter Belind a Knutson (Alan Fisher and his children Alicia and Jamie). Ingie is also survived by her sister Eleanof Paulgaard, as well as extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Johanna and John Oserud and step-father Robert Johnson.
