Dorothy Parker 1924 - 2017

Dorothy Parker (nee Simonick), 93, of Minneapolis, MN, formerly of Western Springs, IL, passed away peacefully at home on Sept 19, 2017. Dorothy is survived by
her husband, Robin; daughter, Jennifer; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Mark Simonick; sisters, Irene Simonick,
Olga Hyzer, and Mae Zelnick; and brother, John Simonick. Dorothy was born in Cornell, WI, on July 10, 1924. She grew up on a dairy farm and went to a 2-room
schoolhouse. In high school, she played the trumpet, was a cheerleader, played basketball, and dreamt of moving to the "big city". Graduating early, she came
to the LaGrange area to live with her sister Mae's family and then with her sister Irene. Dorothy and Irene were known for their annual Tree Trim Parties, a
grand tradition that has continued with her daughter Jenny. Dorothy and Robin were married in Big Spring, TX on Feb 20, 1961. They met playing bridge and found
that they shared an enthusiasm for gardening, golfing, and travel. She and Robin traveled extensively visiting England, Japan, Morocco, Canada, and 47 states,
with a special love for Maui, Hawaii. Dorothy golfed in the Timber Trails Ladies League for 30+ years, enjoying the friendship of all her early tee-time partners.
Together she and Robin purchased The Pretty Penny Shoppe in 1986 when her sister Mae wished to retire. She enjoyed being part of the Western Springs "downtown"
and keeping up with all the news of friends and customers. Last year, after 51 years in their home in WS, Dorothy and Robin left for Minneapolis to be closer
to Jenny. We will miss her deeply. A celebration of her amazing life is planned for next summer. Memorials preferred to Feline Rescue, Inc of St Paul, MN,
or a local Humane Society.
