Ann Ostenson Brewer

May 6, 1931 - August 15, 2022

Ann Ostenson Brewer died peacefully Aug. 15, 2022, at the Rogue Valley Manor with family by her side. She was 91 years old.

Ann was born May 6, 1931, in Camas, Wash., to Gus and Bernice Ostenson. In 1949 she attended the University of Oregon where she pledged the Chi Omega sorority. It was at UO that she met Chi Psi Fitzhugh "Fitz" Brewer. The couple was introduced by mutual friends at Max's Tavern in Eugene where a lifelong love for each other and for their alma mater was born. They married in 1954.

After living in Germany where Fitz served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army, Ann and Fitz returned to Oregon. They lived in Portland and then settled in Medford where they raised their four children. Ever the Oregon Ducks, they were among the first to buy season tickets to Autzen Stadium and attended as many football games as possible. They traveled the world together and with friends, including several well-documented trips to Europe and Asia. Ann loved to travel and take photographs and was especially happy to spend time in Maui, an experience she shared with her children and grandchildren.

Ann was an enthusiastic tennis player, an excellent golfer and enjoyed playing bridge. She was an avid reader of journals and newspapers, enjoyed keeping up with current events. She was involved with many organizations, including PEO, The Colony Club, and The Hillcrest Committee. She was a volunteer at Rogue Regional Medical Center for 28 years. She was a patron of several causes, including the UO Athletic Department, the Ford Alumni Center, and the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art. Ann's generosity will be remembered by her family and by the institutions she supported.

Ann is survived by her four children and their spouses, Libby and her husband, Jim of Happy Valley, Susan of Medford, Mike and his wife, Sheila of Beaverton, and Tom and his wife, Heidi of Beaverton; nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. In addition, there are many extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Fitz; and her brother, Jack Ostenson.

A memorial service will be held Nov. 12, 2022, with the time and place to be determined.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the University of Oregon Foundation, Oregon State PEO or The Hillcrest Committee.
