Maureen McCabe
1933 - January 6, 2024
Maureen
Rose McCabe (nee Terry), 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on
January 6, 2024, at her home in Port Angeles, Washington. Maureen was born in
England, where she grew up with three siblings in a small town outside of
London. She was a survivor of "The Blitz" when Germany bombed London
in World War II.
Maureen traveled from England to Port Angeles in August of 1956 to be with the
love of her life, Julian. They met at a dance hall in Chelveston, England while
Julian was stationed there during his Army service. After they married, they
raised a daughter, Terri, and son, Steve.
She volunteered countless hours as a bookkeeper at several local shops and loved
acting in plays with the Port Angeles Community Players. Maureen was a talented
knitter and crocheter and donated many of her knitted creations to the community
at large. Maureen won awards for throwing darts, spent hours in her backyard
garden, and loved making cookies and "goodies" for her family. She
enjoyed sipping a cup of tea while filling out the newspaper's crossword puzzle
and watching hummingbirds come to her feeders. She was an avid traveler with her
husband, touring around the U.S. in their RV, and spent every February on the
island of Maui for nearly 30 years.
Maureen is survived by her husband, Julian, her grandchildren: Chelsea, Dayne,
Jaycie, Lainey, Chloe, & Blake, her great-grandchildren: Jordan & Emmy,
her sister June, and brother John. She was preceded in death by her son,
daughter, and sister Molly.
A celebration of life will be held at the Port Angeles Senior Center on
Saturday, February 17th from 3pm to 5pm.
