Fred Betts
1938 - December 31, 2024
Fred Rockwell Betts, age 86, of Atlanta, passed away on December 31, 2024. Born in 1938 in Long Beach, California, Mr. Betts had a lifelong love for the ocean. He grew up on the beaches of Southern California, served a distinguished Naval career at sea [VietNam], and spent much of his retirement enjoying the waters of Maui, Hawaii. Fred graduated from Stanford University and earned a Master’s degree in Finance from Northwestern University.
A member of the Cherokee Town and Country Club, he was an avid golfer. Mr. Betts was also a Patron of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and served on the board of the Napili Kai Foundation, where he helped preserve Polynesian culture by supporting educational programs for native Hawaiian children. His involvement in numerous philanthropic organizations reflected his generous spirit and deep commitment to giving back.
Among his many accomplishments, Mr. Betts played a vital role in the success of Capital Guardian Trust Company, a division of the Capital Group Companies.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Bettye Jo Betts; his son, Rick Betts; daughter-in-law, Stephanie Betts; and daughter, Barbara Betts. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
