Article from the Toledo Blade newspaper 13-Aug-1995 (accompanied by a picture of Edward Keyer showing him in his army uniform) titled: "Telegram Arriving on Birthday Brought News of Fatal Disease"

Guns and bombs were not the only threat to the lives of soldiers and sailors fighting in the Pacific Theater. There also was disease, as the family of Pfc. Edward "Bud" Keyer learned in May 1945. That's when Private Keyer's wife, Mary, received word that her husband, serving in the 38th Infantry, had died of hepatitis and jaundice at Luzon. The telegram arrived on the birthday of Private Keyer's mother. "I just stopped home, and there was a note that I had a telegram waiting downtown at the Western Union," his wife, now Mary Wilder, said. "I never thought that he had died. I thought maybe it was a Mother's Day telegram. He was al-ways sending me something." The high school sweethearts had been married about three years and had two children, son John, 2, and daughter Janet (Lindemulder), who was about six months old. Private Keyer, who had worked at the former Kent-Owens Machine Co., never saw his daughter. Mary had just moved into an apartment in South Toledo preparing for her husband to return home. Private Keyer, 21, had been over-seas about a year and a half. "I had a lot of help," Mary said. "I had great parents and great in-laws. It wasn't like I was alone." Mrs. Wilder said she still remembers the sadness. "When they go in, you never expect them to die," she said.

Mary B. ROHR [Parents] was born on 20 Nov 1922 in Maumee, OH. She died on 25 Jul 2009 in Toledo, OH. She was buried in Sylvania, OH / Toledo Memorial Park Cemetery. She married Edward KEYER on 4 Jan 1942.

Obituary from TOledo Blade newspaper: WILDER Mary B. Mary B. Wilder, 86 years, of Toledo, passed away Saturday, July 25, in St. Vincent-Mercy Medical Center. A loving sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, she brought much joy and laughter to all who knew her and will be terribly missed. Mary was born and grew up in Maumee, and in later years came to be known as "Maumee" or simply "Maum" by her grandchildren and great-grandchild-ren. Mary never met a child she didn't like. And children always loved to be near "Maumee" because of her natural ability to make just about any activity fun and interesting. Mary married the love of her life, Edward "Bud" Keyer, in 1941, and they had two children, John and Janet. Like so many others, Bud's life was cut short in World War II as he bravely served his country in the U.S. Army during the campaign to liberate the Philippines. Mary went on to find success and great satisfaction as both a working woman and a homemaker. During the 60's and 70's she was a sales clerk in the fabric section of the bustling LaSalle's department store in downtown Toledo. She was also respected as a highly skilled seamstress, frequently demonstrating a master's ability to transform fabric and thread into the highest quality clothing, upholstery, draperies, lamp shades, and more. Family and friends also sought out her recipes, including those for desserts and cookies, which were considered particularly valuable to those who had tasted her creations. Mostly, though, Mary was known for her sharp wit, unabashed honesty, and simple charm. For those who knew and loved her, she'll always be just a thought and a smile away from us. Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Blanche (Cousino) Rohr, and her brother, John. She is survived by her sister, Joan Guthrie; son, John (Brenda) Keyer; daughter, Janet Lindemulder; step daughter, Nancy (Claude) Racine; grandchildren, Jon (Aron), Jeff (Amy), Gregg, Scott (Wendy), Mark, Kim, Brett (Jennifer), Kristen (Mark), and great-grand-children Alex, Aaron, Ellen, Mary, Maggie, Bradley, Kylie, and Grace. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5 till 8 p.m. in the Urbanski Funeral Home, 5055 Secor Rd. (north of Laskey) (419) 475-5055, where funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. Her cremains will be interred in Toledo Memorial Park.
