Obituary from the Toledo Bee newspaper: SUDDEN DEATH OF MRS. WACHTER - A telegram from Los Angelers, announcing the sudden death of Mrs. William Wachter, of this city, was received here yesterday by Charles R. Orchard. It was an unexpected and grave shock to the friends of the Wachter family. Mrs. Wachter was the wife of the well-known shoe merchant at 320 Summit Street. She left Toledo on April 24 on a visit to their son, Frank Wachter. She was then in the best of health, which makes the news all the more shocking.

Obituary from the Massillon Independent newspaper: JACOB SNYDER, 91, PIONEER RESIDENT, DIES AT HOME HERE - Death Came In Sleep, After Day's Illness - Funeral To Be Held Sunday - Mr. Snyder was Employed at Russel & Company's Plant Over 40 Years - As Youth Drove Carriage for William Henry Harrison - Many Descendants Survive. Jacob Snyder, aged 91 years, a pioneer resident of Massillon, an employee of the Russell & Company for over 40 years, retiring from active duties at the age of 86, died of old age at 8:15 o'clock Wednesday evening at his home, 513 South Mill Street, after an illness of one day. The funeral will take place Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the house and at 2 o'clock at St. Paul's Church. Owing to the absence of Rev. L. H. Burry, it has not been determined who will officiate. Interment will be in the Massillon Cemetery. The decesaed is survived by two daughters, Mrs. J. F. Frangkiser, of Mansfield and Miss Minnie Snyder, of this city, and one son Jacob Snyder, Jr., of this city; 23 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Mr. Snyder's wife died a few years ago, shortly after they had celebrated their sixty-fifth wedding anniversary. Mr. Snyder was a native of Bavaria, Germany. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Michael Snyder, both of whom died many years ago. He came to this country in 1831 with his parents. His father was a wagon maker. Both of Mr. Snyder's parents died in this city and are buried here. For over 40 years he was an employed as a machinist by the Russell & Company. The first wages earned by Mr. Snyder were paid him by James Duncan, on whose farm he was employed when a mere boy. Aferward he worked for John Harkness in a sash factory. Then he operated a steam engine for Hart & Brown and later worked in the Davenport car shops. He spent three years in Navaare, where his brothers operated a machine shop and sawmill. Upon his return to Massillon, he was employed first by Bucher & Stucker and afterward by Russell & Company, whose employ he continued until his retirement. When a boy, Mr. Snyder drove the carriage bearing from Navaare to this city William Harrisson, then campaigning as a candidate for president of the United States. Mr. Snyder was married September 28, 1842, at West Brookfield. Mrs. Snyder's maiden name was Christina Debe, and she was a native of Prussia, Germany, and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Debe. She came to this country with her parents in 1833. Her father was a stonecutter and contractor. Both her parents died in this city and are buried here. Mr. Snyder lived during practically his entire life on the spot on which he died. His parents took up this residence in a log cabin there when they came to Massillon and the cabin later gave way to larger and more comfortable quarters.

SNYDER - It Occurred at South Mill Street Today - Was Ill Only A Short Time - Mrs. Snyder was the Wife of Jacob Snyder and was one of the City's Oldest Residents - Born in Germany, Came to America in 1833 - Four Children Survive. After an illness of less than a week's duration, Mrs. Christian Snyder, aged 84 years, wife of Jacob Snyder, of 79 South Mill Street, one of the oldest and best known residents of the city, died at 1 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Death was due to pneumonia. Mrs. Snyder had been an invalid for the past ten years but had been in fairly good health until last Wednesday when she contracted a severe cold which developed into pneumonia. Mrs. Snyder was born in Germany in 1825 and came to this country in 1833 when but ten years of age and the family located in Massillon. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Debbe. On September 20, 1842, she was married to Jacob Snyder. The wedding took place in West Brookfield. Shortly after their marriage they came to live in this city, where they have made their home until the time of Mrs. Snyder's death. A year ago last September Mr. and Mrs. Snyder celebrated their sixty-fifth wedding anniversary at their South Mill Street home. During their married life thirteen children were born, only four of whom survive. They are Mrs. John Frangkiser, of Mansfield; Miss Minnie Snyder, John and Jacob Snyder, of this city. Twenty-three grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren are living. The funeral arrnagments will be announced later.
