The following article is from the "Ohio Engineer" Nov-Dec 1973 magazine:

TOLEDO "SCHOLARSHIP KING" DIES
William F. Rohr, 86, a retired Toledo public school teacher responsible for helping finance advanced education in engineering for scores of Toledo students at the University of Toledo and Purdue University, died in a Toledo Hospital after a brief illness. Mr. Rohr became ill in his home at 3339 Kingsgate Blvd. He had been confined to his home for some time by heart attacks and injuries received in an automobile accident. The confinement, however, did nothing to discourage him from pursuing his avocation, raising funds for the Woodward Engineering Society Scholarship Fund, a fund which originally was limited to helping Woodward pupils, but later was expanded to include others. He wrote letters and made phone calls to friends, to former students, to people who had crossed his paths, in a one-man campaign to help promising young people. It is estimated that he raised well over $40,000 for scholarships. Mr. Rohr not only ran a one-man collection campaign, but he policed the use of the funds after they were distributed to the universities. On one occasion a $1,000 gift was given to Purdue as a capital grant, which means it was to be invested and the income used on scholarships. Some how, it got lost in the general scholarship fund. Mr. Rohr ferreted this out, insisted that it be returned to a capital fund, and when trustees decided to invest it in government bonds, he found a more profitable investment and persuaded them to invest it there instead. He received the University of Toledo Blue T Award; life and honorary memberships in the Toledo, Ohio, and National Society of Professional Engineers.

Delores GIPSON "Hattie" was born on 14 Jan 1889 in Trenton, MO. She died on 1 Jan 1983 in Toledo, OH. She was buried in Toledo, OH / Woodlawn Cemetery Sec 36. She married William Frobose ROHR on 7 May 1911.

Delores [GIPSON] ROHR was known to all by her nickname, Hattie. The origin of this nickname is unknown; however, I remember her as having a great collection of stylish hats which she wore on every occasion. She was a very outspoken person, never keeping her opinions to herself. Obituary from the Toledo Blade newspaper: Mrs. Hattie D. Rohr, 93, formerly of the 3300 block of Kingsgate Boulevard, died Saturday in the Holly Glen Nursing Home, where she had been a patient since March. She was the widow of William F. Rohr. Surviving is her son, William G. There will be no visitation, and services will be private. The family requests that any tributes be in the form of contributions to the W. F. Rohr scholarship fund at Purdue University, or to the University of Toledo.
