Funeral services for Travis E. Whitman, 67, of 6851 Bloomdale Road, Bloomdale will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Coldren-Crates Funeral Home, the Rev. Dwight E. Norris officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens, near Arcadia. Visitation will be held from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Whitman died early Tuesday at his winter home in North Fort Meyers, Fla. He was born July 24, 1918 in Ohio to Norman and Dessa (Breneman) Whitman. He married M. Luella Baker on March 10, 1945 and she survives. Also surviving are a son, Michael D. of Toledo; a daughter, Mrs. Larry (Susan K.) Olszewski, of Sylvania; five grandchildren; a brother, Paul of Englewood, Colo.; and two sisters, Mrs. Donald (Klyda) Holt, Grand Blanc, Mich.; Mrs. Don (Pat) Conrad, Bloomdale. Mr Whitman had retired from Wood County Highway Department. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Bloomdale. Obituary from the Toledo Blade newspaper: Luella Whitman, 84, formerly of Findlay passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg at 8:54 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2007. Luella was born August 24, 1922, in Hancock County to the late Earl J. and Troas (Altman) Baker. On March 10, 1945, Luella married Travis E. Whitman and he died March 11, 1986. Luella was a secretary at Elmwood High School for 10 years, Fostoria High School for 4 years and retired from Bowling Green City Schools. Surviving Luella is a son, Michael Dean Whitman of Cape Coral, FL; daughter, Susan K. (Lawrence) Olszewski of Sylvania, OH; two brothers, Delton (JoAnn) Baker of Findlay, Cloyce (Janet) Baker of Van Buren and three sisters, Onalee Taylor of Findlay, Donelda Goldfarb of Charlotte, NC and Maxine (Charles) Stukins of Dayton. Also surviving are grandchildren, Justin Whitman of Orlando, FL, Garrett (Dee) Whitman of Tucson, AZ, Chad (Heidi) Olszewski of Perrysburg, Matthew (Gretchen) Olszewski of Bowling Green, Krista Olszewski of Sylvania and great-grandchildren, Landon Olszewski and Giovanna Whitman. She was preceded in death by brothers-in-law, LeRoy Taylor and Ralph Goldfarb. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Bloomdale and Blanchard Valley Hospital Auxiliary. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 1, 2007, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Coldren-Crates Funeral Home, 205 W. Sandusky St., Findlay, OH 45840. He was born in Hancock County, Ohio on March 30, 1924. His parents were Earl John and Troas Ethel (Altman) Baker, both deceased. On March 3, 1946, he married Betty Irene Deidrick, and she passed on April 25, 1993. He then married Joann Crawfis and she survives. Other survivors include three sisters, Onalee Taylor, Findlay; Donelda Goldfarb, Charolette, North Carolina; and Maxine (Bud) Stukins, Englewood, Ohio; a brother, Cloyce (Janet) Baker, Van Buren. Preceding him in death was one sister, Luella Whitman and 3 brothers-in-law, Travis Whitman, LeRoy Taylor and Ralph Goldfarb. Surviving children include three sons, Denny (Diana), Terry (Rande), Tom and one daughter, Sherri Frantz all of Findlay. Surviving grandchildren include Todd (Amy) Baker, Kettering, Ohio; Keri (Grant) MacKay, Lakewood, Ohio; Cassie (Barry) Coppus, Gahanna, Ohio; Andrea (Greg) Krieger, Findlay; Ryan Solomon, Toledo, Ohio; Matthew Solomon, Huntington Beach, California; Brian Frantz, Findlay, Scott Frantz, Cincinnati, Jayme Frantz, Findlay, Kelli (David) Myas, Loveland, Ohio; Kristi (Jeff) Beall, North Baltimore and Eric Baker, Findlay. Great grandchildren include Hailey Krum, Graceful Baker, both of Kettering, Ohio; and Madison Krieger, Findlay. Stepchildren include Bruce (Janet) Misamore, Houston, Texas; Doug (Diana) Misamore, Westminister, Maryland; Todd Misamore, Orlando, Florida; and Lisa (Jon) Hartenfeld, Fremont, Ohio; Maureen (Andy) Penman, Columbus, Ohio and Laurie (Jeff) Stevenson, Columbus, Ohio. There are nineteen step-grandchildren and eleven great-step-grandchildren. Delton was a 1942 graduate of Van Buren High School. He enjoyed his early years on the family farm near Arcadia, especially working with livestock and showing stock at the county fair. In 1943, Delton joined the U.S. Army and served 32 months in Alaska. Delton worked as a carpenter for Hullenkramer Construction Company and retired June 1, 1986. Having completed over fifty years of continuous union membership, Delton was granted a Life Membership in the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America. Delton was a member of St. Marks Methodist church and served many years as a church building trustee. The church library shelves are just one example of Delton's craftsmanship that abounds in the church. He was a charter member of Amvets Post 21 and a Life Member as of 1/1/1947. Delton's dedication as a husband and a father was evident by his involvement in many family activities. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren giving each one his own special nick name. His wood working talents gave him many hours of enjoyment and relaxation. His shop door was always open to family and friends with whom he shared his craftsmanship. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 12, 2008 from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00 p.m. at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, with Rev. Lowell Reeder and Pastor Terry Pontius officiating. Youth Dies After Being In Coma Since February - Robert Eugene Baker, 18, of 637 W. Center St., died at 5:40 a.m. Monday in Fostoria City Hospital. He had been unconscious since Feb. 14 when he was injured in a one-car accident on State Route 12, five and a half miles east of Fostoria. The youth was a passenger in a car driven by William Edward Fuller, 17, Fostoria, when the car went out of control and rolled over twice. The driver and other passengers in the car, David Samson, 16, and Terry Brandeberry, 17, all of Fostoria, and Jim Gillis, 17, of Lindsey, were seriously injured. The youth was born in Miami Beach, Fla., Nov. 8, 1945 to Harry and Irene (McMahan) Baker. He was a junior in Fostoria High School when injured. Surviving are his parents; two sisters, Susanne and Deborah, at home; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry D. Baker, Arcadia. Funeral services will be held in the Harrold Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Mahlon D. Wenger will officiate with burial in Memory Gardens, Arcadia. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
