Earl E. Gobel, 68, of Scottsdale, Ariz., a former Toledoan, died Thursday in a Scottsdale hospital. He owned the Gobel Trucking Co. in Chicago, retiring four years ago. Surviving are his son, Earl; sisters, Mrs. Erma Carrick and Mrs. Elsie Ridley. Services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the Boyer-Van Wormer Mortuary, Secor Road, where the body will be after 7 p.m. Saturday.

Obituary from the Findlay Courier newspaper: Funeral services for Herman A. Dennis, 88, of Burnham Drive, Fostoria, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, the Rev. Branson J. Hawkes officiating. Burial will be in Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria, with military rites by Joint Veterans Group of Fostoria. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Dennis died at 4:09 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at St. Luke's Hospital, Maumee. He was born Aug. 6, 1914, in Fostoria to Ansel and Clara (Gobel) Dennis. He married Dorothy Rowles in 1941 in Fostoria, and she died in 1983. He later married Wanda Pelton-Cramer in November 1985 in Fostoria, and she died in 1993. Surviving are a stepson, Larry Cramer, New York; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Rex (Linda) Hathaway, Bryan; and Mrs. James (Lois) Myers, Fostoria; seven step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Joel of Kansas, Ohio; and two sisters, Gladys Dennis-Basinger, Fostoria; and Anselia Regnier, Eclectic, Ala. Mr. Dennis retired in 1982 as a U.S. mail carrier in Fostoria. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and received the Purple Heart. He was a 1932 graduate of Fostoria High School. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Fostoria, where he was a former board member; American Legion; VFW; and played trombone in the VFW Band and other dance bands in the Fostoria area. Memorials may be made to the church or a charity of the donor's choice.

He was born Aug. 10, 1932 in Kansas, Ohio to US and Zenith (Prenzlin) Flagg. He married Shirley Goebel on March 22, 1955, and she survives. Also surviving are a son, Leonard of Cape Coral, Fla.; four daughters, Mrs. Don (Colleen) Sauber, Mrs. Terry (Tina) Bryant, Mrs. Jim (Terri) Hosman and Kathy Fuerstenau, all of Fostoria; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Martin of Kansas, Ohio; a sister, Shirley Robbins, Tiffin. Mr. Flagg retired in 1988 as a machinist at Atlas Crankshaft Co., Fostoria, after 37 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Funeral services will be held at a later date. The body will be cremated. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or a charity of the donor's choice.

Obituary from the Zanesville Times-Recorder newspaper: Royce Chaffin, 53, of Canton, a former Crooksville resident, died at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday (July 16) at Aultman Hospital in Canton from an apparent heart attack suffered a short time earlier. He was born May 25, 1916, in Crooksville, a son of the late Harley and Rhea Eppley Chaffin. Mr. Chaffin was employed as a meat cutter at Sowers Grocery Store in Crooksville before moving to Canton in 1951. Surviving are his widow, Ruby Chaffin; two sons, Edward Chaffin of Chardon, and Reginald of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Barbara Berry and Mrs. Regina Spencer of Canton; eight grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Reba David of New Lexington, Mrs. Jean Fisher of Roseville, and Miss Joan Chaffin of Roseville. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Reed Funeral Home in Canton. Burial will be in a Canton cemetery.
