Obituary from the Zanesville Times-Recorder newspaper: Mrs. Emma Gobel Expires Tuesday - Mrs. Emma Gobel, 73, widow of John Gobel, died Tuesday night at 11 o'clock at the home of Mrs. Laura Kelly, Linden Avenue, where she had been residing for the past two weeks. Prior to that time she had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Reba Shai, Maysville Pike. Five weeks ago she was taken ill at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Gobel, Eastman Street. The family residence for many years was at 1230 Linden Avenue. The deceased was the youngest and last surviving child of Peter and Barbara Gobel, pioneer settlers in Morgan County. She had been a member of St. John's Lutheran Church for the past 35 years. She was taken into the Lutheran faith early in childhood. Besides the daughter, Mrs. George L. Shai, she is survived by a son, R. E. Gobel, Miami, Fla.; two granddaughters of this city, Mrs. Ronald Cline and Mrs. Carolyn Gobel. Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Shai, one mile south of Zanesville. Dr. W. M. Hackenberg, pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church will officiate and interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery. The body will be removed to the Shai residence Wednesday afternoon from the Mader-Peoples Funeral Home.
