Carl Edward Gobel, 86, of Oil Center Road in Bloom Township, passed away on September 13, 2000 at Blakely Care Center in North Baltimore where he had been a resident since August. He was the son of Charles Andrew and Hazel May (Clemens) Gobel, born on June 6, 1914 in Bloom Center.Carl was a graduate of the Bloomdale High School Class of 1931 and enjoyed trips to Mexico and the western United States with several classmates after graduation.He married Marian L. Huffman of Arcadia on June 19, 1941. They made their home for nearly 60 years on Oil Center Road in Bloom Township, just east of Bloom Center, where he enjoyed gardening of vegetables and flowers.Carl farmed independently, did contract combining of crops throughout Wood County, worked at the Ford Garage in North Baltimore, and retired in 1979 after working as a Bloom Township employee for 15 years.Carl was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Marian. He is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Bishop of Blakeley Care Center; a son, Gary (Faye) of Virginia Beach, VA; a daughter, Loretta (Gary) Franks of Perrysburg; grandchildren, Mark (Tracee) Gobel of Pearl Harbor, HI, Brian (Stephanie) Gobel of Virginia Beach, Gary Franks of Oxford, OH, Kristin Franks of Magnolia, KY; and two great-grandchildren.Friends and neighbors may call at the Smith-Crates Funeral Home in North Baltimore from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Thursday, September 14. Services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, September 15 at 11:30 AM with the Rev. Hal Argabright officiating. Interment will follow at Weaver Cemetery. The family requests that tributes and memorials be in the form of donations to Blakely Care Center or to Bridge Hospice of Findlay.

She was the daughter of Arthur and Amanda (Baker) Huffman, born on November 15, 1917 in Arcadia, OH. Marian was a graduate of the Arcadia High School Class of 1935. She married Carl E. Gobel of Bloom Township on June 19, 1941. They made their home for nearly 60 years on Oil Center Road in Bloom Township, just east of Bloom Center. Marian was a loving mother and homemaker with interests in houseplants, gardening, cooking and sewing. Marian was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Clair B. Huffman in 1996. ALONZO CLEMENS, A NATIVE OF WOOD - Wayne, April 2 - Death entered the home of a former Wood County resident, Alonzo Clemens, when he and his wife died within 8 hours. They were the victims of influenza and complications. Mr. Clemens died at 1:00 P.M. and his wife at 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 21, at their home , 624 N. Sheldon St., Charlotte, Mich. Double services were held from Cheney Funeral Home with Rev. Vernon H. Beardsley of the United Brethren Church officiating. Burial was in the Gresham Cemetery. Mr. Clemens was born Jan. 19, 1869 in Wood Co. to John and Elizabeth Clemens. He was married to Rhoda Annie Esterly on March 12, 1889. To this union were born 5 children: Mrs. Chas. Gobel, of Bloomdale; Mrs. Ivah Zingery, of Shepard; and Mrs. Alma Metzler, of St. Louis, Mich; John, of Charlotte; and Omer, of Lapier, Mich. The mother died Sept. 15, 1933, at Gresham, Mich., where they had moved in 1910. Besides his children, Mr. Clemens is survived by grandchildren, great- grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Lillian Tyson of Wayne. Mr. Clemens was a retired farmer. Five years ago Mr. Clemens married Mrs. Myrtle Williams of Eaton County, Mich. She is survived by a son, Grand Williams, two brothers, Claude and Loren Strickland and two half brothers, Mahlon and Lewis Strickland, of Lansing, Mich.

MRS. A. F. CLEMENS DIED IN MICHIGAN - Rhoda Annie Esterly Clemens, daughter of Jacob and Annie Esterly, was born in Wood County, Ohio Aug. 22, 1868 and departed from this life Sept. 15, 1933 at the age of 65 years, 23 days at Gresham, Mich. On March 12, 1889 she was united in marriage to Alonza F. Clemens of Wood County, Ohio. To this union were born five children: Mrs. Charlie Gobel, of Bloomdale, Ohio; John Clemens, of Charlotte, Mich.; Mrs. Roy Zingery, of Mt. Pleasant, Mich.; and Mrs. Ora Netzley, of St. Louis, Mich; and Omer Clemens, of Charlotte, Mich. She was in failing health for a number of years and took to her bed the 26th day of June. She was a patient sufferer during all her illness. She was a devoted mother. Her family and her church were her main interests in this life. She was a member of the M. E. Church at Gresham. Besides the husband and five children, she is survived by sixteen grandchildren, one sister and three half-brothers. Funeral services were Monday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at Gresham and burial in Gresham Cemetery.
