Obituary form the Bowling Green Sentinel newspaper:

DETAILS OF THE DEATH OF DAVID GOBEL - As Dr. Hinton, of Orlando, Fla., was the only one who was with David Gobel at the time of this death, the following incident has been related by him to relatives and friends. Christmas Day, he and the doctor were fishing in Lake George, near Orlando. They had fished for two hours with no success going around the lake. When going into deeper water, they both hooked a fish at the same time; the struggle caused the boat to tip and both fell into the water. The doctor went down twice and when he finally made the shore, he saw David going down. He went for help, but those who tried to swim out found the water too cold and had to return. When the sheriff and others got him out and rushed him to the hospital, life was gone and nothing could be done to save him. As the doctor found very little water in his lungs, he considered the shock of the cold water too much for his heart. David Gobel, aged 53, was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Gobel and was born in Morgan County, Ohio, but spent most of his young life near Bloomdale, Ohio. Soon after returning from the World War, he went South and married Miss Geraldine Newsloem of Orlando, Florida, and has been a resident there ever since. Funeral services were at Orlando. He is survivied by his wife, Mrs. Geraldine Gobel, and one daughter: Mary Elizabeth Gobel; four sisters: Mrs. Carl Frankenfield, Brunswick, Md., Mrs. Charles Hampshire, Jerry City, O., Mrs. John Bob[b], North Baltimore, O., Mrs. H. A. Warner, Murphy, Oregon; two brothers: George Gobel, Toledo, O., Charles Gobel, Bloomdale, O; one sister, Mrs. Clara Dennis. His mother and father preceded him in death. He was loved by all who knew him and leaves not only relatives and many friends at Orlando, but also in his former home near Bloomdale.
