Rites Today For Mrs. Laura Nelson - Arcadia Woman Dies of Heart Disease - Mrs. Laura Nelson, 77, died unexpectedly of a heart attack at her home in Arcadia at 7:40 a.m. Saturday. She had been in ill health for a month. Mrs. Nelson, a duaghter of Norman and Mary (Anderson) Huffman, was born Dec. 18, 1871 in Washington Township. On Jan. 1, 1891 she married Ballard Nelson, who is deceased. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Canfield, Findlay, and Mrs. Edward (Della) Walters, Van Buren; a brother, Ephraim Huffman, Findlay; and several nieces and nephews. Three brothers, Morris, William E., and Arthur Huffman are deceased. Mrs. Nelson was a life-long member of the Salem Methodist Church. She also belonged to the W.S.C.S. and Ladies Aid Society of the church and the W.C.T.U. Funeral services will be held at the Arcadia Methodist Church at 2 p.m. today. Interment will be in the Arcadia Cemetery. The body was taken to the Coldren Funeral Home where it will remain until noon today when it will be taken to the church for services.

BLOOD POISON FATAL TO CASS TOWNSHIP MAN / ARTHUR HUFFMAN DIES AFTER A BRIEF ILLNESS

Injury to Finger While Repairing an Automobile Develops Serious--Leaves Wife and Three Children.

Blood poison developing from an injured finger received while repairing his automobile a few days ago proved fatal to Arthur Huffman, aged 43 years, of Cass Township about 6 o'clock last night. He was overhauling his machine when one of his fingers became entangled in a cog wheel. Medical attention was rendered at once and it was not thought that anything serious would contract from the injury. Last Friday, the wound became poisoned and despite the unceasing efforts to save his life, all hopes were in vain. Mr. Huffman was born Sept 23, 1874, and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Huffman, early settlers of Washington Township. His mother died several years ago. Mr. Huffman had always resided in Hancock County, being actively engaged in agricultural work all his life. He was married a number of years ago to Miss Amanda Baker, daughter of Squire John Baker, well-known resident of this county. To this union, three children were born. They are: Clair, 4; Catherine 2; and Marian, 3 months. He is survived by two brothers and three sisters, all living in this country. They are: W. E. Huffman and Ephraim Huffman of Marion Township; Mrs. Ballard Nelson of Washington Township; Mrs. Riley Campfield (sic) of Biglick Township and Mrs. Ed Walters of Marion Township. One brother is dead. No definite funeral arrangements had been made last night.

Cass Township Woman Expires - Services Tomorrow For Mrs. Huffman - Mrs. Amanda Huffman, widow of Arthur Huffman, died at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Marian Gobel, of Bloom Center, at 7:30 o'clock yesterday morning. A cerebral hemorrhage caused death. She was born in Cass Township June 18, 1880, a daughter of John and Sarah (Binger) Baker. She was married to Arthur Huffman March 18, 1911 and he died Feb. 27, 1918. Three children survive: Clair B. Huffman of Cass Township; Mrs. Katharyn Crates of Cass Township and Mrs. Gobel. There are six grandchildren. A brother is living, Lemuel Baker of Cass Township. Three brothers and a sister preceded her in death. Mrs. Huffman was a member of the Salem Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held in the Coldren Funeral Home at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon with the Rev. A. L. Althaus officiating. Burial will be in Arcadia Cemetery. The body will remain in the funeral home.

Funeral services for Clair B. Huffman, 82, of 1110 Bernard Ave., will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Coldren-Crates Funeral Home. Burial will be in Arcadia Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-5 and 7-9- p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Huffman died at 5:55 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 1996 at his residence. He was born Aug. 26, 1913 in Cass Township, Hancock County, to Arthur and Amanda (Baker) Huffman. He married Lucena M. Snyder on Jan. 21, 1945, and she survives. Also surviving are four sons: Allen of Springfield, Mo.; Stephen, of Phoenix, Ariz.; Randall, of Cheltenham, England; Rodney, of Cary, N.C.; a daughter, Mrs. Douglas (Nancy) VanAtta, Findlay; five grandchildren; and two sisters, Katharyn Crates, Arcadia; and Mrs. Carl (Marian) Gobel, Bloomdale. Mr. Huffman was a retired Cass Township farmer and a former employee of National Automotive Fibers and the C. J. Laffey Paving Co. He served 41 years as Cass Township clerk. He graduated from Arcadia High School and was a memebr of Tabernacle Church of Christ.

Marian L. Gobel, 82, of Oil Center Road in Bloom Township, passed away on June 6, 2000 at Blakely Care Center in North Baltimore where she had been a resident since suffering a stroke in 1992. She was the daughter of Arthur and Amanda (Baker) Huffman, born on November 15, 1917 in Arcadia, OH. Marian was a graduate of the Arcadia High School Class of 1935. She married Carl E. Gobel of Bloom Township on June 19, 1941. They made their home for nearly 60 years on Oil Center Road in Bloom Township, just east of Bloom Center. Marian was a loving mother and homemaker with interests in houseplants, gardening, cooking and sewing. Marian was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Clair B. Huffman in 1996. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Carl, of Bloom Center; sister, Kathryn Crates of Arcadia; a son, Gary (Faye) of Virginia Beach, VA; a daughter, Loretta (Gary) Franks of Perrysburg; grandchildren, Mark (Tracee) Gobel of Pearl Harbor, HI, Brian (Stephanie) Gobel of Virginia Beach, Gary Franks of Oxford, OH, Kristin Franks of Magnolia, KY; and two great- grandchildren.Friends and neighbors may call at the Smith-Crates Funeral Home in North Baltimore after 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Thursday.
