Cass Township Farmer Stricken - William Riley Canfield, 70, Dies From Heart Attack While at Work - William Riley Canfield, 70, died suddenly of a heart attack at 9:45 o'clock Monday morning at his home in Cass Township. He had been in ill health for several years. He was working about the farm when he was stricken. A son of C. W. and Maria (Ames) Canfield, he was born Sept. 19, 1874 in Cass Township. On Nov. 8, 1894 he was married to Bertha Huffman who survives. Besides his wife he leaves two daughters, Mrs. Wade Bechtel, of Bluffton, and Mrs. Reuben Buckland, of Van Buren, and a sister, Mrs. J. C. Kissell, of Allen Township. A brother and sister are dead. There are seven grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held in the Coldren Funeral home. Burial will be in Van Buren Cemetery.

Born March 9, 1878 in Hancock County, she was the daughter of Norman J. and Mary (Anderson) Huffman. She was married to William Riley Canfield in November, 1894. He died in 1944. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Wayde (Orpha) Bechtel, Bluffton, and Mrs. Reuben (Faye) Buckland, 1123 N. Main St; seven grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
